It’s All About You, Just Not The Way You Think.

Hello, Happy Sunday! (lol I pray this drops today🙏).

So, if you still like me after reading my previous post and the violence was not too much for you, welcome back. Kindly expect that from time to time, lol.

In case you haven’t seen it, take a look https://t.co/LZsbTfaq5x?amp=1 😉.

Moving on.

I almost didn’t write this week. I kept thinking of what to write about, going from one topic to another. I almost said, “Wo! Me I’m tired oo 😒”. In fact, I just got this topic and now, I’m writing. Praise God sambadei!

Have you ever been in that situation where God keeps you from doing something that will make you happy?

Like that time you had the perfect rebuttal and the Holy Spirit said “No”.

Or that one time you wanted to hold a grudge or give someone a taste of their own medicine and a verse like Romans 12:17 popped up in your head.

Remember how it felt?
You probably just said “God save you” and held your peace, but e pain you. Lol, I know the feeling too well.

Last week I heard from a friend of mine, that another friend of mine said something bad about my guys and I. I was pissed and hurt and I wanted to go and drop a sub for the person on Twitter and my WhatsApp status, knowing the person will definitely see it but I hesitated because Spiro (The Holy Spirit) wasn’t down for that kind of behaviour. The thought stayed on my mind for days, but Spiro just kept saying “have you heard the other side of the story? What if it was all just a misunderstanding and by the time you act it’s now too late to take back what you did or said?” I eventually gave in sha and decided I was going to confront the person (in person, cos I don’t like solving this kind of issue over the phone. 2 seconds everything fit sour) if the Holy Spirit allows it because it’s possible that He’ll say I should just let it go like that. I even found myself telling one of my guys these things The Holy Spirit was telling me. It’s not like the thing is not still paining me sha but I’m learning to let it go.

I said that to let you know that I know as e dey be sometimes and in a way, we can look at it from the “God save you” perspective but there’s actually more to it. God, in those moments, is actually saving us from ourselves. That’s why the title reads “It’s actually all about you, just not in the way you think”.

You see, our behaviours are usually filled with habits. How we eat, how we talk, how we act, how we react etc. they are all a result of things we were either taught or we picked up somewhere and repeated till they became our “natural” way of life. Just like learning how to play an instrument, or riding a bike, or even learning to walk.

Each time God saves us from acting in a certain way that is out of character, in as much as it is to protect the person, it actually also is all about us. God doesn’t let us act in any way that will later fill us with guilt or shame because these things build fear in us and taint our perception of who He is. Whenever we get into that headspace, it’s usually harder for us to talk to God freely or even receive from God. It is not because He loves us less or doesn’t want to talk to us. No, It’s because we feel we are not worthy enough, so we try to fix it by keeping away till we are worthy enough to come back into His presence.

But Hebrews 4:16 says,

Remember the story of the prodigal son?

Remember how he wanted to go back to his Father and ask to be a servant?

Remember how his Father ran to him the moment He saw him and hugged him?

That was Jesus telling us about the Father’s love.

God has given us ways to always stay on the right frequency with Him all over the Bible. It is so that we can always easily receive from Him all He has already given us to live a godly life (2 Peter 1:3), and not give in to what some may call “human nature”.

God’s plan for us is stated in Jeremiah 29:11

The next two verses say “Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:12–13

This is the expected end.

God wants us to develop habits that are in line with His character, for only then can we be fully yielded to have the same kind of relationship Jesus has with Him where we can confidently say “I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, BECAUSE I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” John 5:30 (NKJV)

So next time the Holy Spirit contradicts a feel-good quote that tells you “do whatever makes you happy”, listen to Him. After all, He is The Spirit of Wisdom and He loves you dearly. Whatever the situation may be, it’s not worth a single second in God’s presence.

These habits take time to build, but isn’t that the way it is with anything worth building?

My Pastor once said, each time God tells you to do something and you do the opposite, you’re building a habit of rebellion against God. In the same light, you can start building a habit of obedience towards God. One second, one step, one day at a time. You’ve been given the grace you need. You can do it. No, it’s not just for your pastor. It’s for all of God’s children.

I’ll leave you with Romans 12:1&2

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
